Sometimes all you want is a simple knit top without sleeves. Learn how to make a relaxed muscle tee or fitted tank top. Learn how to add binding and/or facings to a knit garment and how that affects its ability to stretch. A large range of stretch percentage is used for the patterns so pay extra attention that the fabric you choose works for your particular pattern. In class we will go over determining your size when a garment has negative ease, how stretchy your stitches truly need to be and easy ways to hem knits.
The Max tee is a boxy knit top with a muscle tee shoulder shape and a dropped armhole. Choose between a cropped or hip length finished with hem facings. You have multiple neckline options that include a neck facing, rib neckband and a mock neckband.
Simplicity S9314 is a simple men’s knit top with a slight drop sleeve and a relaxed fit.
The Arrowsmith Undershirt is a modern, simple to sew tank top or undershirt. It features a deep crew neckline with enlarged armholes finished with binding and a slim fit.
The Zoey Tank & Dress are fitted with a soft front V and scooped back neckline with the armholes and neckline finished with bands. Length ranges from a cropped (hitting around the natural waist) or hip length top to a maxi dress although it would be easy to adjust the pattern to any length in between. A free expansion on the True Bias website gives you additional options including a high, scooped or square neckline.
SKILL LEVEL: ADVANCED BEGINNER
PREREQUISITE: Knits 201A/201B or equivalent experience.
You should have previous machine sewing experience and have completed a few projects. You should be comfortable taking your measurements and using those to read the back of the pattern to determine the necessary supply amounts.
