Who doesn’t love adorable animals? Zootropolis contains patterns for 32 different animals to create using applique. The patterns are modular so you can make the entire quilted menagerie or combine your favorites and create smaller projects like pillows, table runners or baby quilts.
Applique is a great way to add details to a quilt that otherwise would be extremely difficult (if not impossible) to create with traditional piecing. This introduction will use the fusible web method of ironing your fabric layers in place before stitching them down. You will learn how to prepare and attach your appliques plus how working with appliques can change your order of construction.
In class we will go over how to customize your blocks into your preferred final project and how to calculate fabric needs for the background, backing and binding. Pick out some Fat Quarters (FQs) and Bits & Pieces for your animals in store or bring some of your favorite scraps with you.
SKILL LEVEL: ADVANCED BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE
PREREQUISITE: Quilting 101 or equivalent experience.
You should have previous quilting experience and have completed a few projects. Please email erin@pacificfabrics.com if you are unsure if your skill level is appropriate.
